Plant Hardiness Zone Temperature Chart

A plant hardiness zone is a geographical area in which the average lowest winter temperature falls within a specified range. A plant is said to be hardy down to a certain zone when it can survive the average lowest winter temperature in that zone. In addition to latitudinal temperature gradients, changes in altitude also affect local climate, so in mountainous regions pockets of lower-numbered zone regions can occur within expanses of higher-numbered zones. Many plants can grow in any zone with a number equal to or higher than the zone they are rated for, however, some plants need cold winters to complete their yearly growing cycle.
